Extra History

Extra History is a YouTube channel I've personally known of since about late elementary school. They are an educational channel with a ton of people with a bunch of varying degrees. You can't forget Zoey, the reappearing black cat that appears in every episode. covering several topics from the past, including ancient history, all the way up to modern history. They usually don't do individual episodes; instead, spanning out their coverage into more series covering a specific period, person, or event. Due to this, I will just cover one series. The humor can vary from more lighthearted seris to very serious and darker coverage of more tragedies in history.

The Great Gay King (CW Abuse)

It is said that most states have an army, but Prussia has a state for its army. Prussia, the country that would later unify Germany, is located in the northeast of Germany. It was a state well known for its militarism. Prussian troops were known as the most disciplined, well-trained troops of Europe for the time… well, at least till Napoleon rolled around.

Map of Prussia during Frederick's reign

Frederick the Great was born to Frederick William and Sophia Dorothea Hohenzollern. Growing up, Freddy was a bit different from his father; his father wanted an heir of hyper masculinity, Calvinist piety, and frugal financial habits, Fred wasn't that; he enjoyed poetry, the arts, and philosophy, and even worse to his father, he learned French and took to it as his native language rather than German. Fred also didn't really like Calvinism, being more agnostic. Fred was raised purely by his mom for the first 6 years of his live allowing him to explore his interests. Things changed when it was his father's turn to raise him. His father's things got worse; his dad considered him feminine, incompetent, and irreligious. His father proceeded to abuse his son in many ways, berating him, beating him bloody for several reasons, one being wearing gloves when it was cold, and burning his books.

Fred wasn't traditional. Fred was Gay. he had an intimate relationship with a page; his father found out, beat him, sending the page to a far-off post. A later partner, he would force Frederick to watch while he got executed. In the end fred promised in order to avoid execution that hed be a good Protestant and get married. He was despondent over his marriage and even threatened suicide, and wept upon meeting her

After his father passed, he ascended the throne. Friedrich adopted a personality of masks, often being seen as the average misanthropic, edgy teenager. During his reign, he had his fair share of drama with Voltaire, fought multiple wars, including the Seven Years' War, where he fought most of Europe, excluding Britain, and won. Expanding Prussia, connecting the region of Prussia with Brandenburg, and taking one of the richest regions in Europe, Silesia. At the end of his reign, he died peacefully in one of his estates. He left no heirs. A legacy of one of the greatest military strategists of his time, pen pals with a majority of Europe's greatest figures, and one of the greatest kings Germany has ever had.  (God, I wish he lived long enough for a showdown with Napoleon.)
